My Story

BIOGRAPHY

My father, Ray Negron-Acevedo, was born in 1933, in the town of Hormigueros, Puerto Rico--a small town where the job opportunities consist of primarily farming. His father harvested Sugar Cane and earned less than $2.00 per day. As the oldest son, my father was expected to help support his mother, and two sisters. He began working with his father and harvesting sugar cane when he was 12.

MILITARY

My father joined the US Army when he was only 17. When he first joined the military, my father spoke no English. He was one of a few Hispanics in the military at that time and had to overcome racial issues, as well as the language. Through hard work and dilligence, he moved up the ranks--finally achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4... and became one of the first Hispanics to do achieve officer status. My father loved the military and his country and served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars before he was stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. He retired from the military after 30 years of faithful service.

Though he never graduated from high school, my father received his GED while in the military and received two college degrees. He instilled the love of knowledge into his children, both of whom have professional degrees.

Family...

My dad was a "family man" who loved life. He loved to cook and would cook elaborate meals for friends and family. He was married to his wife for 39 years. He loved his family. His son became a successful business man and His little Princess became a lawyer.

My father passed away on January 29, 2007, due to cardiovascular disease,
leaving a legacy of beautiful memories behind.

I love you, Daddy!
